Wild Wonders

Wild Wonders

Exciting experiences throughout Sunset Zoo designed to educate and encourage exploration.  Everything from the Wild Wonders Room to Wonderspots to Wild Wonders Activity Kits, you can visit an experience or rent one to enhance your walk around the Zoo.

Wild Wonders Room

This experience is in memory of longtime volunteers of Sunset Zoo, Bob and Marilyn Johnson.  Their love and passion for Sunset Zoo, the animals, and educating zoo guests, can be experienced in this room.  From animal habitats to tortoise feeding, zoo guests visiting this space can get up close and personal with several of Sunset Zoo's smaller ambassador animals.  In addition, a digital display features videos originally taken by Bob and Marilyn Johnson for a unique look into Sunset Zoo's past.  Other videos highlighting Zoo projects are also on display.  For more details, click here.

Tortoise Feeding in the Wild Wonders Room

For $1.00, guests can feed one of Sunset Zoo's two Sulcata tortoises.  The Sulcata tortoise is the third largest tortoise in the world, and they love their greens!  Using a clothes pin, guests can help Sunset Zoo ensure they get their fill of food so they continue to grow to their full size.  Tickets for feeding can be purchased at the Zoo's gift shop/ticket booth.  Times for tortoise feeding are:

Saturdays from 1:30-2:30p*
Sundays from 1:30-2:30p*

*times subject to change based on animal welfare needs

Wild Wonders Activity Kits

In partnership with ieDiscoveries, Zoo guests can rent activity kits from Sunset Zoo's ticket booth to enhance your visit.  Activity kits come stocked with all the supplies needed to engage in activities the whole family will enjoy.  Activities are designed to be self-led, and themed around specific topics.  Once all activities have been completed, drop the activity kit back by the ticket booth to receive a related take-home activity and a free pass to visit ieDiscoveries and extend the experience.  Wild Wonders Activity Kits can be rented for $5.00 each.  Check with the ticket booth for available kits.  For more details, click here.

Wonderspots

Wonderspots are popup experiences led by trained Sunset Zoo volunteers.  These experiences are not scheduled, and are popup by nature when volunteers are available.  When you encounter a Wonderspot at an animal habitat when visiting Sunset Zoo, you will get to see, touch, and learn unique things about the animals in our care.  Beyond Wonderspots, we are constantly updating our QR Code graphics with new stories, videos, and links to more information about the animals and our conservation efforts.
