Scientific Name: Phoenicopterus ruber ruber

While other flamingos are restricted to shallower waters, the Caribbean flamingo is capable of wading out into deeper waters due to its great size.

  • Diet: Crustaceans, molluscs, aquatic insects, polychaete worms and algae
  • Habitat: Brackish and saline inland and coastal waters
  • Range in the Wild: Caribbean to northeastern Brazil and the Galapagos Islands
