Bring the Zoo to You

Let us bring the Zoo to you! As Sunset Zoo relaunches many of its in-person program opportunities after stopping them in our response to COVID-19, we are still limiting off-site, in-person options.  Sunset Zoo's Education Team has developed numerous virtual programming options that we will continue offering to meet your needs and enhance your group's experience.

School-oriented Experiences

Sunset Zoo's virtual program opportunities geared for school groups promote the development of observation and critical thinking skills.  Education staff leading these virtual opportunities use various questioning strategies to evoke responses from student participants. These opportunities include:

Zoom the Zoo - Virtual Zoo Tours: Using the Zoo map, groups can visit animals at Sunset Zoo through Zoom or a virtual platform that works best for your group.  Students will learn about key aspects of each animal, then encouraged to make observations and ask questions.  Programs last either 30 or 60-minutes, and are facilitated live.

Virtual Close Encounters: Dive deep into the adaptations of animals with a guided exploration of an ambassador animal from Sunset Zoo.  Students will make observations of a live animal and related animal artifacts as they create their own understanding facilitated by Zoo education staff.

Career Connections: Are you interested in exposing your students to a variety of science-related careers?  Encourage them to join Sunset Zoo's Career Connections program, or work with Sunset Zoo's Education Team to schedule a Career Connections program exclusive to your class.  To explore scheduling an Career Connections program for your class, contact us by email.

Family and Individual Registration-based Experiences

Virtual Birthday Party: Connect with friends and Sunset Zoo animals virtually to celebrate a birthday!  The birthday child can pick 3 animals to meet up close, and add-on options can make the party even more memorable.  Birthday parties include a virtual invitation to send to your friends, and since the party is virtual you can invite friends and family from across the globe to join!

Career Connections: Do you have high school student in your family that is interested in pursuing a science career, but not quite sure what is available to them?  Career connections is a series of FREE virtual programs that connect high school students with research and practicing scientists.  High school students can pick and choose which session interests them the most to join.
