(Manhattan, KS - March 30, 2020) Based on the most recent Stay at Home Order declared by the State of Kansas beginning today, Sunset Zoo will remain closed until at least April 19 to mitigate the spread of COVID-19. The City of Manhattan and Sunset Zoo have followed these orders to close to the public effective March 19 until at least April 19, 2020. The Zoo will work in close coordination with the City of Manhattan and public health officials to reassess the situation at that time.
We remain committed to providing the more than 250 animals entrusted to us with the same excellent standard of care during this time. Staff who can work remotely have made preparations to do so.
Our top priority is the health of our guests, our staff, and the community that has supported us since 1933. For more information and updates, please follow our social media accounts and website for updates.
Our animals are healthy, and we will continue to provide them with expert care as we monitor the COVID-19 situation. We remain in constant touch with our state, national, and international veterinary networks to monitor updates. We always have several months of supply of essential food and veterinary supplies and have contingency staffing plans to ensure our animals will continue to thrive.
