Science on Tap

Wednesday, September 20, 2017

A monthly gathering at Manhattan's Tallgrass Tap House, featuring public discussion on engaging science topics.

About Science on Tap
Held in a relaxed (and fun!) setting on the third Wednesday of the month August through April*, Science on Tap features a brief, informal presentation by a local scientist followed by lively conversation. The goal is to build our community’s enthusiasm for science in a fun and unique way.

This Month's Featured Guest & Topic
Exploring Firefighter Health & Fitness

Presented by:  Brittany S. Hollerbach, MS, Graduate Research Assistant, Ph.D. Student of Kinesiology at Kansas State University

Brittany’s research focuses on tactical athletes including firefighters, military, and police officers with a focus on health and wellness. Brittany's research is driven by her background in the fire service. After attending the regional fire academy in Kansas, Brittany became state certified as a Firefighter/EMT, and served as a volunteer firefighter for four years. Brittany also has her Fire Service Instructor I certification and taught at a regional fire academy for 6 years before attending K-State.

Brittany is dedicated to bettering the lives of firefighters across the nation by increasing awareness and research regarding these important tactical athletes. Brittany completed her Master’s Degree in Kinesiology at K-State in December, 2016. She is currently in the first year of her Ph.D. program in the Kinesiology Department.
