Science on Tap

Wednesday, August 23, 2017

A monthly gathering at Manhattan's Tallgrass Tap House, featuring public discussion on engaging science topics.

About Science on Tap
Held in a relaxed (and fun!) setting on the third Wednesday of the month August through April*, Science on Tap features a brief, informal presentation by a local scientist followed by lively conversation. The goal is to build our community’s enthusiasm for science in a fun and unique way.

*The August Science on Tap is held on the last Wednesday of the month.

The Details: Dates, Time & More
Each Science on Tap will feature different topics so community members will learn something new each time they attend. Free, interactive program begins at 7pm in the Tap House's Firkin Room. Be sure to arrive early to grab dinner and drinks - happy hour pricing extended to all Science on Tap attendees until 7pm - $1 off beers and $2 off appetizers. Be sure to let the Tap House staff know you are there for "Science on Tap".

This Month's Featured Guest & Topic
August's featured scientist is Dr. Michael Herman, Professor in K-State's Division of Biology and Assistant Dean of K-State Graduate School.  Dr. Herman will be exploring how his lab uses roundworms to help us understand questions about human health.  Similarities between these simple animals can provide insights into healthy development and disease processes that benefit our understanding of more complex animals, such as ourselves.  Join us to learn how all this happens, and specifically how we are using roundworms to learn about combating bacterial infections.

Other Dates this Fall
September 20, October 18, November 15
